Wisdom

As I pondered the Book of Proverbs I started to take note of all the treasures that are linked with Wisdom. The more I read this book the more I realized how valuable Wisdom is and not just because it says in the Word. Although it being written in the Word is powerful all by itself, this was like living breath jumping off the pages. I will focus on four treasures I discovered that are linked to Wisdom that I would like to share.

The first two things that I found linked to Wisdom are JOY and FAVOR. In the Passion Translation, Proverbs 8:34-35 says this: “If you wait at wisdom’s doorway, longing to hear a word for every day, JOY will break-forth with you as you listen for what I’ll say. For the fountain of life pours into you every time that you find me, and this is the secret of growing in the delight and the FAVOR of the Lord.”

What a treasure that is found here in this scripture! If we will position ourselves daily to wait at wisdom’s doorway longing to hear a word, then we will experience JOY!!! This brings a new perspective when we wait on the Lord. Not only do we experience JOY, but we bring JOY to the Father who in turn grants FAVOR upon our lives!

The two other treasures that I discovered linked with Wisdom are LIFE and FRUITFULNESS!!

In the Passion Translation, Proverbs 9:10-11 says this: “The starting point for acquiring wisdom is to be consumed with awe as you worship Jehovah God. To receive the revelation of the Holy One, you must come to the one who has living understanding. Wisdom will extend your LIFE, making every year more FRUITFUL then the one before.”

Wow!! What is the prescription each one of us needs to have a daily dose of for a FRUITFUL LIFE: WORSHIP! Worship is our antidote to anything that keeps us from the fruitful life that the Lord has destined for us!

In Proverbs 2:2-5, this scripture gives some instruction that can help us as we pursue these treasures that are linked with Wisdom and how to go about it.

“So train your heart to listen when I speak and open your spirit wide to expand your discernment-then pass it on to your sons and daughters. Yes, cry our for comprehension and intercede for insight. For if you keep seeking it like a man would seek for sterling silver, searching in hidden places for cherished treasure, then you will discover the fear of the Lord and find the true knowledge of God.”

As I meditated on these scriptures I asked the Lord for a prayer strategy to pray into regarding Wisdom.

Here are three things that the Lord impressed upon me as I meditated on the scriptures above.

Train our heart to listen to His Voice (Proverbs 2)

Open our hearts wide (Proverbs 2)

Seek for Wisdom (Book of Proverbs!)

So then I asked the Lord for some practical steps that I could apply in my life, this is what He said:

Be consumed with and in awe as you worship Him.

Wait on Him daily, Listen for His Voice, Align our Spirit, Soul and Body with Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Don’t give up - seek Him daily and earnestly.

As we worship and wait on the Lord there are many benefits and treasures to be discovered.

I will leave you with a beautiful verse from the Book of James that encourages us to ask for Wisdom especially if one is lacking it. James 1:5 NKJV “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

Wisdom is a priceless gift that we can only get from the Lord and here in James it says if we lack wisdom or other translations say “deficient of wisdom”, to ASK of HIM! What an abundant God we serve that He will give to all liberally and without reproach!

When you study out the words liberally and reproach you will discover some more treasures and be humbled by His tender mercies. I like the way Matthew Henry Commentary explains this verse. “An illustration of God's giving simply. He gives to the humble suppliant without upbraiding him with his past sin and ingratitude, or his future abuse of God's goodness. The Jews pray, "Let me not have need of the gifts of men, whose gifts are few, but their upbraidings manifold; but give me out of Thy large and full hand.”

In other words, if we humbly ask the Lord for wisdom and believe that He will answer us then He will liberally give it to us! He does this without considering our past sin or ingratitude OR even with knowing of future events of abusing His goodness!!!

Do you feel the Father’s heart towards us and His desire for us to live from a place of Wisdom? Do you see His hand being extended to us today? What do you have need of? Selah

Be encouraged and know His desire is to bless His children with Wisdom so we can obtain these treasures such as JOY, FAVOR, and FRUITFUL LIFE!! There are many other things linked to wisdom that one can discover but these stirred in my heart. So, let your expectations rise when you meditate on these treasures such as “wisdom will extend your LIFE , making every year more fruitful then the one before.”
